Description de l’éditeur
"Essential reading for anyone who wants to understand history – and then go out and change it." –President Barack Obama
Nelson Mandela was one of the great moral and political leaders of his time: an international hero whose lifelong dedication to the fight against racial oppression in South Africa won him the Nobel Peace Prize and the presidency of his country. After his triumphant release in 1990 from more than a quarter-century of imprisonment, Mandela was at the center of the most compelling and inspiring political drama in the world. As president of the African National Congress and head of South Africa's antiapartheid movement, he was instrumental in moving the nation toward multiracial government and majority rule. He is still revered everywhere as a vital force in the fight for human rights and racial equality.
Long Walk to Freedom is his moving and exhilarating autobiography, destined to take its place among the finest memoirs of history's greatest figures. Here for the first time, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela told the extraordinary story of his life -- an epic of struggle, setback, renewed hope, and ultimate triumph.
The book that inspired the major motion picture Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Your life will not be complete without...
This book not only "should be read by every person alive"(Boston Sunday Globe), it should be studied so as to implement the many virtuous lessons in your own life from the most resilient, intelligent, generous and honest man alive today.
He is quite candid in his thoughts and feelings regarding what he experienced and accomplished from his first memories in childhood to the point of being elected the President of South Africa.
The only significant difference from the paperback version I have is the lack of photographs yet I don't regret purchasing this digital copy as this version allows highlighting and searching this classic wherever I might find myself. It works smoothly on my iPhone 3G.
The only way this autobiography of the utmost historical import could be better would be to include his life up to this evening after the closing of the 2010 South Africa World Cup!
In other words...
"A serious account of a life and a cause... wonderful insight into the man who is his country's combined Washington, Lincoln and Gandhi." -- Montreal Gazette
"Mandela writes with rare and moving candor." -- The Economist
"A deeply touching chronicle of one of the remarkable lives of the twentieth century." -- Christian Science Monitor
So engrossing I didn't want him to leave prison!
Mandela's a leader in discipline, will and the integrity bound with the courage against seemingly intractable racism. An engaging writer, he tells His story with both detail and passion. Couldn't put it down!
Long Walk to Freedom
Mr. Mandela provides the reader with an in-depth, accurate and compelling history of the rise to power of the ANC in this rather long book. He certainly leaves no stone unturned, or small fact overlooked as he takes us through his 80 or so years of his tumultuous life in South Africa. A historical must read.
