Looking for a Frontier

In 1954, Darryl Cole-Christensen left a comfortable home in Oceanside, California to become one of the first settlers of the Coto Brus region, an almost impenetrable mountainous rain forest on Costa Rica's southern frontier. He begins the story with his first, difficult journey as a seventeen-year-old through Central America to the remote outpost of San Vito on Costa Rica's southern frontier. From the adventures of searching for a lost Indian gold mine, to traveling on foot and horse-back though an untracked wilderness, to the grinding challenges and extraordinary rewards of building a farm and life on a frontier, Cole-Christensen recounts a life experience forever closed to most people in Western, urbanized society.
