Leaving the rodeo circuit and his drinking behind, Wyatt Long has settled in a cabin on the quiet shores of Lost Lake. When his pa, Rowdy Long, who abandoned him as a child, shows up unexpectedly in Buttermilk Falls, forgiveness is far from certain. 

Wyatt buys some run-down hunter’s cabins to restore as a lakeside resort, and helps Amy, the town’s vet, unravel the mystery of her pet crow, Inky’s found jewelry.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Buck Buchanan is blindsided by the unexpected electricity radiating between him and flashy Gloria Gilbert, newly arrived owner of Sparkles—a store specializing in turning cast-off trash into treasure. She’s not at all his type. Besides, he has his hands full trying to protect the interests of Mildred Stein, an elderly widow whose mind is failing, but whose heart is set on seeing her property turned into a park for the town. Mildred’s neglectful son wants to sell her land to a big-box store, jeopardizing the shops and small town character of Buttermilk Falls.
