Publisher Description
Mansa discovers a powerful leopard trapped inside a steel cage. The leopard begs to be freed and promises not to harm him. Though afraid, Mansa takes pity on the animal and opens the cage.
But no sooner is the leopard free than he turns on Mansa, claiming that it is his nature to hunt and that hunger matters more than promises. Desperate to save his life, Mansa asks the leopard to allow five judges to decide whether it is fair for the leopard to eat the person who rescued him.
One by one, the goat, horse, orange tree, and dog all side with the leopard, each remembering how badly humans have treated them. Just when Mansa loses hope, a clever fox appears. Pretending not to understand the story, the fox asks to see exactly how the leopard was trapped. Proud and impatient, the leopard steps back into the cage to demonstrate. Mansa quickly locks the door, trapping the leopard once again.
With danger contained, Mansa learns a powerful lesson about wisdom, caution, and the consequences of trusting harmful promises
