Matilda Water Mouse

Matilda Water Mouse lives in Bribie Island, Queensland. One day she decides to explore the other side of the Island where the people live and she meets some very interesting humans - Mrs Brolly, Red-haired Reba Rosehip, and three children who lend their yellow kite to Matilda. Unfortunately it has some scary consequences and Paddy Pelican has to save her.

Confidence and bravery, in the event of unexpected events, is a key theme in the book.

The book sets the scene for a series of short books for young children and introduces the reader to creatures who are classified as "vulnerable."
