Maverick

Maverick is the tale of Marjan, an exiled wizard living alone in the Allyssian forest, who is one day called upon to rescue seven young children and their teacher from a pack of dire wolves.

Of course no good deed goes unpunished and saving them is merely the begining of his task as he must then escort them to safety in the southern lands, battling armies of dire beasts and the terrible spider queen, on the way.

But even then, having reached the safety of the elves, he knows a war is comming. Hordes of dire beasts are pouring down from the north, sweeping all before them and sacking the towns in an endless orgy of death and destruction.

And so a young wizard, exiled from his guild for a past mistake, living among a people he does not understand, bound by personal shame and guild rules that restrict him in his magic, must become a battlemage, a mighty weapon in the war against the north.

And failure means death.
