My name is Dalton Evers.

Funerals and wakes were never one of my favorite events. I avoided death at all costs.

Then I found myself at a funeral parlor and the final viewing of Gretta Logan, the daughter of Charlie Logan, a close childhood friend, whose daughter was found dead. How could such a gorgeous young girl die so suddenly? She looked so peaceful, lying in the casket like she was taking a nap. But she wasn't sleeping. She was dead.

A week ago, her family found her in her bed, staring at the ceiling, with a weird, sick smile on her face. The coroner was stumped. She was drained of all her blood.

As I said my last goodbye, I felt like someone was looking over my shoulder. When I turned, no one was there.
