Publisher Description

In Memory of Jamie Recent events have reminded us of the powerful relevance of terrorism and the impact it has on society's culture and beliefs. Germany, in particular, still struggles to come to terms with its own terrorist past and the legacy of the leftist terrorist groups that grew out of the 1960s student movement. At the forefront of German terrorism was the Red Army Faction (RAF), or, as it was subsequently called, the Baader-Meinhof Gang, which fought violently from 1970 until 1998 to bring about radical change in West German society. (1) While most of the active members of the RAF later found themselves in jail or seeking refuge in former East Germany, many of the mainstream followers of the student movement made a successful leap into the political sphere.
