Mending Fences (Texas Heat #1)
Marlene O'Connor grew up on her family's ranch in Texas but left as soon as she could. Ten years later she came back for a vacation but sure doesn't get much relaxation. She met ranch hand Curtis Copeland and was immediately attracted to him. She didn't recognize Curtis from her youth but he loved her as a teen and never forgot her. She's only there for a short time but hopes they can have fling anyway. Too bad Marlene's father and brothers didn't want them to be together and worked hard to keep them apart. Also Curtis had a ten year old secret that he didn't want her to find out about because he's afraid she'll hate him.
I liked how strong Marlene was in standing up to her family and outsmarting them. You should read it to find out more about how she does it. Curtis was a very proud man who worked hard around the ranch. Marlene's father and brothers were so protective of Marlene that I felt sorry for her having to deal with them. Even though I liked this book I almost stopped reading after the first few chapters but I like Amelia Rose's writing so I kept going and I'm glad I did. The couple of things that annoyed me were related to horses. The first thing was the comment about the horse's fur. Horses don't have fur - they have hair. The second thing was that I thought the reason she got thrown from her horse was stupid. She lost focus when racing her horse against Curtis and didn't see the water. You just don't lose focus when riding. She especially wouldn't race when she hadn't ridden in years. I thought about this a little more and realized that most readers wouldn't know these facts so as part of the story it would be exciting.
I did enjoy this romance and recommend it.

Surprisingly cute story that was fun to read. For a short novella type book I thought this one was well written with good characters giving the story a good flow. If you are looking for a sweet one sitting read this book is for you.
