Kim’s lack of self-confidence just about killed me to see
I cannot wait until the human race gets to the point that we stop treating one another abominably for any of the stupid reasons in use now. Kim’s lack of self-confidence just about killed me to see. It was brutal to view the world through her eyes and experiences, but mostly because of how accurately the North American stereotypes were portrayed. I really liked Braun and how much Kim’s appearance didn’t matter to his feelings about her. I think this book suffered from being too short for the story it was trying to tell. There were a few things that I thought should have been important, that were missing. What does Kim really look like? Maybe the author left that vague so that all of us fat girls at home would see ourselves in her. I don’t know about any other readers, but no matter what the heroine is described as looking like, I’m going to be picturing myself in her place. I would have loved to have had a description of her from outside her own body dysmorphia. Why was Kim so hard on herself? From the society perspective, I get it: human beings are awful, judgemental creatures. But, her issues seem to go a lot deeper than just our Barbie-worshipping society. And I desperately would have liked to have seen a peek into their future. Because for how self-assured Braun was and how insecure Kim comes across as, I can’t see them together for the long haul unless she was able to change her negative self talk and find some real confidence in their relationship.
