Mr. Dooley's Philosophy
Publisher Description
This book, first published in 1898, was a collection of newspaper columns by the author in a variety of newspapers in Chicago. Dunne (1867-1936) was, obviously, an Irishman, and used his main character, Mr. Dooley, to express opinions of the times on significant and not-so-significant events. Mr. Dooley was the local Irish bartender, and wasn’t shy about expressing his opinions – even when they weren’t necessarily based on facts. During his lifetime as a journalist, Dunne wrote over 300 columns featuring Mr. Dooley. Many of these were then collected to make this book – an instant bestseller at the time.
