My Wife and I

Harriet Beecher Stowe was an American prolific writer and social activist,a woman who wrote about the horrors of slavery before the Civil War. The informal, conversational style of her many novels permitted her to reach millions as a novel and play, and became influential in the United States and Great Britain.

 “My Wife and I” was first published in 1872. The novel is dedicated to description of alcoholism as an illness. Author’s attitude was very modern since, at that time, most people believed that alcoholism was a moral failure. It is recognized that her son Fred was the inspiration for the main character of novel.
