Beautiful photography & loaded with fun facts
Mysteries of the Grand Canyon is the very first iBook I have read on an iPad and I was simply blown away. The photographs featured in the book are so like-life that I feel I can reach out and pet the adorable dog who is the main character of the book, Kristi Kay. The vistas of the Grand Canyon captured by the amazing photography are so breathtakingly beautiful that I can’t help but think if I can’t actually be there, this is pretty close to the real thing. I have no hesitation in declaring that the illustrations are GORGEOUS!
Dog-lovers will love that an adorable Cairn Terrier, Kristi Kay is featured as the main character. The reader will experience the Grand Canyon through her eyes. But Kristi Kay is not the only living thing included in the book, there are other animals indigenous to the Grand Canyon region including a California Condor, an Abort’s squirrel and many other critters; as well as many descriptions of the local flora. Want to find out more about these different species of living things or about the Grand Canyon itself? No problem, just hit the little paw print, and you will either hear the call of a bird, see more information about the Condor, or view a movie clip, map, or chart with more detail and/or external links to more resources.
Mysteries of the Grand Canyon is the first in a new educational series which features Kristi Kay traveling to a number of National Parks across the United States. The interactive features of the book coupled with the stunning photography make this an excellent resource for a classroom. In short, the educational value of this beautiful book is very high and I highly recommend it to children ages 6 to 12. You’ve got to try it out!
