An army scout escorts three ladies as a crazed killer tails them in this action-packed western by the author of the Spur Award–winning Hell Hath No Fury.
Three desperate women. One deranged killer. No way in hell is John Hawk going to sit back and let the innocent get slaughtered. He first meets the three lovely ladies as they’re fleeing in a wagon—alone—through Blackfoot country. What’s their rush? They’re being pursued by a wanted outlaw who wants them dead. Their only chance is to reach the Last Chance Saloon in Helena—and John Hawk is their last hope . . .
Hawk can track down a low life like nobody’s business. But this time he must stay two steps ahead, keeping the ladies safe and sound until they get to the saloon. There’s just one problem: the outlaw got there first. He’s the notorious Zach Dubose. He’s waiting for Hawk and his girls. And he’s ordering them a round vengeance with a bullet chaser—and death on arrival . . .

Customer Reviews
Slow, but fast and swift ending.
This book really intrigued me, in it's first three chapters. The journey to walking owls village, the Buffalo which was hunted and killed, to the journey to Helena were three great intriguing parts of this story. There are these three women, blossom, JoJo, and Burty, who are fleeing this outlaw that blossom married, named Zack Dubose. Hawk finds them, escorting them to Helena. Dubose ends up catching up with them in Helena, leading to one of the most heartfelt parts of this book. Dubose shoots JoJo, whose name is Joanna, because she prevented him, from taking blossom away on his horse, because she fled from him, to abuse her. This part of the book, made me feel like John Hawke, who wanted revenge for Joanna's death. Joanna liked the feather in his hat, so he put it in her hand, and instructed that she should be buried with that feather in her hand. The rest of the book is slow, until Hawk gets back on the trail of Dubose, leading to this fast pace ending. Hawk goes back to the grave of Joanna, and there he encounters these two red-tailed hawks fighting. A feather from one of those hawks, lands on his leg, and into his hat the feather goes. Everything has a purpose, everything comes and goes at its due season. I am looking forward to reading the third book in this series, Montana territory. Definitely read the first book in this series, before you read this one.
