Sexy paranormal comedy!
No Light is a sexy, supernatural comedy set in a world where werewolves and their magical cousins, werelocks, flourish unbeknownst to humanity. Its prologue is edgy, shocking, and profoundly captivating, setting the stage for the introduction of a truly strong and unflaggingly determined heroine, Averhilda Fatima Haskie. . . .She prefers “Avery”.
Avery is a survivor. She’s fought abuse, fought death, and she’ll fight anything that threatens the life and safety of her frightfully-gifted and oddly-tormented child. She is tireless in her fight to keep The Rogue hidden from her hunters. Falling in love with one of her daughter’s hunters was not part of her plan.
I loved everything about Avery and Alcaeus as a couple, from the irony and the sassy repartee, to the way they see the perfection in each other’s imperfections. Avery is as stubbornly independent as Alcaeus is determined to be protective. These two are so much fun!
Her: “Look, I get it. You grew up in ancient times. I appreciate that you want to be chivalrous and protect me from the world. But I didn’t grow up in the seventeenth century. And I can’t be that damsel for you. Never been wired that way.”
Him: My mate was the cutest little badass there ever was.
You don’t need to read the preceding three books to understand the dynamics between all the characters since all is eventually revealed through Avery’s very perturbed and astounded perspective. Her internal monologues are a riot!
This story has everything: its own rich magical history, surprising twists, scorching romance, wacky humour - all revealed with smart dialogue and witty commentary. It has plot depth, amazing originality, and great execution. Beneath the life-and-death struggle, beneath the doom and gloom prophesying, lies the nostalgic wit that I crave and which makes this world so special to me.
