No Time for Fear

Papa Menendez insisted on his hardworking Central American family eating a

specially prepared meal that night. It was pompeyia which meant that whatever

the occasion was it was serious. Papa Menendez suddenly announced,

“Tonight we will all run!” The family was shocked! How could they run? Mr. and Mrs.

Menendez were too old, and Baby Maria was too young to run. Besides that, they

were not ready to run. No one had mentioned anything to the rest of the family about

running to the U.S. border. “We have to. And we must do it tonight. We have no time

for fear!” Papa Menendez insisted. Though the family argued against his decision, their

arguments were all futile. “Your mother and I have always wanted to give each of you

a chance to dream and to have a better life. So tonight, we will run to our dreams and

the dreams of our fathers and our grandfathers. We will fight for our right to capture

our dreams. We will run tonight because time is crucial, and there is no time for fear!”
