Publisher Description

As World War I drew to a close in 1918, America's Protestant denominations began dreaming big about the impact they might have upon the postwar world. Methodists, Presbyterians, Disciples, and others began framing fundraising campaigns of unprecedented size in an attempt to underwrite massive expansions of mission work abroad and denominational bureaucracy at home. Southern Baptists were no exception, approving at their 1919 convention a "Seventy-Five Million Campaign" that aimed at strengthening the various boards and agencies of the Convention while tying them more closely to each other and to their constituencies.
