When Capt. Darcy Heddon told her parents she was joining the Canadian Forces and becoming a reservist, they weren't very happy about it. She was daddy's little girl. Her parents couldn't imagine their daughter joining the military, and they certainly didn't understand why she would want to. "That was 14 years ago and the thought of your little girl carrying a gun and working with a bunch of men all the time is sometimes hard to wrap your mind around," says the 34-year-old. "Daddies have got their little girls on their knees and think they're going to grow up to be princesses, nurses, and teachers."
