Publisher Description
The day Danielle Harding takes her 11-year-old son, Simon, and flees from her abusive husband, is the same day Kurt Harding dies. A relieved Dani believes she and her son are finally safe--but in reality, the danger has just begun. When Kurt was alive, he took something important to a mysterious person. That person wants the item back and believes Dani now has it. As she and her son run for their lives, they have nowhere to turn, until she hires Adam Buchanan of Operation Refuge and goes into hiding. Unfortunately, she won't be able to hide for long . . .
From the first breathless scene, this tension-laced story will hold readers in its iron grip. Bestselling author Lynette Eason propels readers along at a breakneck pace in a race to discover the truth and a better future.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Eason's second novel in the Hidden Identity series (after No One to Trust) opens suspensefully: in the middle of Danielle Harding's plan to escape her abusive husband, he unexpectedly sends his brother Stuart to fetch something from the safe she has already emptied. From there, the suspense never lets up. Dani manages to get away, picking up Simon, her deaf son, as planned, but on the same day, her husband is killed. Now the danger escalates. Stuart is stalking them; no matter where they go, he or his henchmen turn up to threaten their very lives. When Dani finally calls Operation Refuge, a government-sanctioned protection program, Adam Buchanan and his team promise to help her and stop Stuart's gang's advances. But despite OR's best efforts to take her undercover, Dani's pursuers track them down. How do they keep finding them? Adam and Dani value family deeply: both are forced to sacrifice much to protect loved ones, heal damaged relationships, and stop evil. Readers will be on the edge of their seats till the final chapter.
Customer Reviews
One of her best!!
This is a good book. Yeah, like as in fast paced, edge of your seat, can't put down good from start to finish! I've been a fan of Lynette Eason for a while now, and this is one of her best stories so far, which is saying a lot. If you liked her Women of Justice series you don't want to miss this one. Dani and her son are as likeable as her abusive husband and his brother are not. That's ok, it makes them great villians. Domestic violence is not an easy subject to address but Ms. Eason does so tastefully, and takes it seriously. Dani and her son are not totally fine a few days after Kurt's death. It takes time to work through the serious issues that come from that sort of situation.
Characters from No One To Trust, the first book in the Hidden Identity series, play fairly key roles in this second book, which is neat but it doesn't in any way mean that if you started with this book that you would be lost or missing important information. My favourite kind of series is one where the story is wrapped up by the end with no major cliffhanger or no important back story that you wished you read first and this fits the bill. Danger, secrets, excitement, fear, and some romance, it doesn't get much better than this.
