Mrs. Nancy Bostick de Saussure (1837- 1915) was born in Hampton County, South Carolina. She was educated at home by private tutors. She married Dr. de Saussure. During the Civil War, Dr. de Saussure served the Confederacy as a surgeon. Later on after the Civil War, she taught at Vassar College. In 1909 Nancy Bostick de Saussure wrote Old Plantation Days: Being Recollections of the Days Before the Civil War in the form of a letter to her granddaughter.
