Conversational, engaging and motivating

Stephen King wants to connect with his Constant Reader and he does. I even became emotional in his telling of his accident occurring when he decided to finish writing this book. It’s admirable that he sees writing as his compass and he’s true to himself. His ability to place his finger precisely upon common threads makes his style approachable to writers.

Inspiring the practical

Stephen King writes yet another book that I cannot put down, albeit this one does not haunt me at night, and the morning after I finish the book. However, it is just as powerful, and as memorable as many of his other best sellers. King offers advice on how to write well from the perspective of a popular author. It is both practical and inspirational. Candid, and straight forward, On Writing speaks to the hearts of many aspiring writers, by drawing on the author's own experiences. A must read!

Emulating the master

This book is an intimate conversation with Stephen King about how he writes. It is jammed with useful advice on how to avoid writing a boring novel. King admonishes the budding novelist to read and write profusely, as hard work is the only path to success. I have used this handbook to in my grade 12 English Literature class - it keeps us grounded. It is easy to both read and understand and could also be used for a junior level class.
