Battle's book a winner!

I found this a thought-provoking read. Growing up White and middle class on the west coast, the life story of a guy born into a family of sharecroppers in a tarpaper shack on the edge of a Louisiana cotton field at the height of the overtly racist Jim Crow period was a jolting eye-opener. This is a a candid, well-written work, a must-read for anyone who wonders why things are as they are for so many African Americans (especially men) in today's America. I highly recommend this book.
