Kerr and Burchill, band mates in the Scottish rock group Simple Minds, meditate in their sincere debut on the friendship at the core of their musical careers. The pair met at age eight in working-class Glasgow, bonding over their love for music and founding the punk bands Biba-Rom! and Johnny and the Self Abusers as teens before forming Simple Minds in 1977. The authors chronicle their career from their 1979 debut album Life in a Day through the start-and-stop process of forging the band's identity to their 1989 Live Aid performance and beyond, weaving in plenty of rock star anecdotes along the way, including acid trips in the desert and a dinner with Lou Reed.
