From the Introduction: Ignacy Jan Paderewski is undoubtedly one of the most storied characters in the long narrative of Polish history. As a pianist he captivated the world with soulful and awe-inspiring performances of the compositions of his fellow countryman Chopin. As a composer he sought to bring Polish culture to the forefront of the world stage. And as a politician and diplomat he helped to build Poland out of the ashes of World War One. In 2014 he is still being celebrated as one of Poland’s most internationally renowned sons and undoubtedly its foremost statesman.
