Participation at Care Home Admission (Report‪)‬

Introduction The policy for the care of older people in Sweden includes being able to choose to continue living in one's ordinary home, even when one is in need of extensive care. This care is decided and organized within the social welfare service by home care managers. Personal care as well as simpler medical care is carried out by enrolled nurses and auxiliaries supervised by district nurses. Also at admission to a care home, the home care manager analyses the situation and organizes the move by listening to the wishes of and guiding the old person and her/his relatives (1), who often play an important role in assisting the older person in this situation (2). Reasons for moving and possibilities to be involved in this process may vary, but an earlier study by Andersson et al. (3) showed that those who experienced participation in the moving process were satisfied with care home living. Consequently, it is interesting to study the reasons for moving as well as participation in the process.
