Publisher Description

“Patriot Eats!” is a cookbook like no other.  Based on the first cook book published in the young United States of America, the book is full of timely food wisdom perhaps more useful today than ever before (The original author even suggests a way to pay down the national debt!).  This is truly the food that fueled the revolution and fed the birth of the nation.  For that alone “Patriot Eats!” belongs in every kitchen in the country.  This food is our heritage and emblematic both of how far we’ve progressed and how much we’ve lost.

It is the old food wisdom and know-how stored in the book that makes it important.  With today’s ever-growing emphasis on eating healthy, “real” food, and preparing it simply and nutritiously, here is a collection of recipes and practices that do just that.  Written by a cook who had only crude kitchen accommodations to work with – at least by our standards - she could create multiple meals, every day, for a large, hard-working family, using local produce and meat, without refrigeration, running water, or microwave ovens.  It’s pretty amazing, and amazingly, pretty simple.  If the food motto of our times is as Micheal Pollan put it, “Don’t eat anything your grandmother wouldn’t recognize.” then “Patriot Eats,” could be the basis for everyone’s diets - simple, natural, tasty food that your grandmother’s great-great-grandmother would recognize!

What we did with “Patriot Eats!” was build a completely fresh and new book out of the old one.  We created a cookbook that is thoroughly up-to-date in appearance, and full of interactivity and photography that make the book easier to use and bring the old recipes to life.  We created a fun and simple interactive layout that would take advantage of the tools offered up by the iPad, while not getting in the way.  “Patriot Eats!”, is fun, instructive and valuable.  Just give yourself a little  license for some experimentation and you will end up with real food you are proud of, that is truly your own.
