POETRY OF A GEISHA by ELIZABETH ITŌ

A collection of poetry, traditional Haiku poems and writings from acclaimed author and former geisha Elizabeth Itō. From the humble beginnings of a young apprentice and through the stages of servitude needed in becoming a geisha, 'Poetry of a Geisha' explores the complexities of the rituals and traditions of Japanese culture, expressed by the heart felt words of experience. A true insight into the realms of submission and dominance found within one of the most misunderstood professions in the world.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born in Tokyo to a Japanese father and Italian mother, Elizabeth was raised in Japan until eight years old when her family then relocated to Switzerland. Elizabeth returned to Japan at the age of twenty-one, where undertaking geisha training within the confines of Kyoto's Gion district, she became one of the few Eurasian women to live the life of a geisha until retiring at thirty-five years old. Elizabeth now spends her time between Japan and Switzerland.
