Poverty

Poverty is defined as the lack of basic human needs such as food, housing, health and education. Today, there are still billions of people in the developing world surviving on less than £0.80 a day. In the UK itself food poverty, fuel poverty and child poverty are becoming increasingly urgent issues. Aimed at the younger reader (11- to 14-years-old), this book explores poverty on both a global and a local scale. The information comes from a wide range of sources and includes government reports and statistics, newspaper reports, features, magazine articles and surveys, literature from lobby groups and charitable organisations.
