Racism Issues

Globally, the UK is viewed as a place of diversity and tolerance. In a recent poll, however, one in three Brits admitted that they are racist. Even students as young as eight have been suspended for racial abuse. This book explores the concept of racism and goes on to debate the issues associated with discrimination: Can white people be the victims of racism? Do we overact and label banter as racism? What is Islamophobia? These ideas, and many others, are discussed within. The information inside comes from a variety of sources, including newspapers, magazines, government reports and charity groups; providing different perspectives on challenging topics. At the end of each chapter is a selection of activities, designed to encourage interaction, literacy and critical thinking. Content is accessible and engaging, tailored primarily towards the 11 to 14 age group.
