Sheriff Walt Longmire heads out of Absaroka County in this change-of-pace outing. Asked to investigate the sudden disappearance of a mail carrier, he goes undercover by taking over her 300-mile rural route. The postal worker’s boyfriend is acting suspiciously, but soon Walt finds himself pulled into an even bigger mystery involving alien-abduction believers, secret mail deliveries, and a nomadic cult. Walt’s usual mix of dry wit and philosophical insight is abundant in this especially exciting caper, and the weirdness he encounters gives him plenty to muse about. As always, author Craig Johnson makes the Wyoming wilderness feel so immersively real that you can almost smell the pine sap. This is a great road trip read.
