Chris Carter frequently travels to teach drawing and to paint en plein air. Her obsession with utility covers and geometry have brought her full circle, back to her roots of photography. Through the lens of the camera she distills the essence of a city, town or hamlet to better understand the nature of its community and ultimately to express that personality in paint. This is a collection of sketchbook drawings and more than fifty of her favorite photographs taken in Marseille, France in June of 2014.
