Publisher Description

Seen Reading is the exciting debut collection of microfictions from Canada’s pre-eminent literary voyeur, Julie Wilson. Based on the beloved online movement of the same name, Seen Reading collects more than a hundred stories inspired by sightings of people reading on Toronto transit, each reader re-invented in a poetic piece of short fiction. Tender, poignant, and fun, Seen Reading offers readers an inspired fictional map while charting an urban centre’s cultural commitment to books and literature.

"Beneath the surface of Julie Wilson’s energy, biting wit, and quirkiness lies intelligence and insight—a fresh observer to the dynamic ways in which we communicate."—Anthony De Sa

"I spy, with my little eye, something that is utterly delightful. Take a peek at Julie Wilson's Seen Reading. There are treasures to be found within."—Ami McKay

“With Seen Reading, Julie Wilson has done something revolutionary for the time: seamlessly combine books-related gossip, arts reportage, and creative writing in every post. The results are exhilarating and deliciously voyeuristic.”—George Murray, Bookninja.com

Seen Reading

Having been a fan of Julie's work for a long time, I was thrilled to see her branch out into fiction. These short short stories draw you right in and really capture a moment in transition. How often have you ever wondered about that stranger on the subway next to you? Wilson puts those thoughts to paper and the result is engaging, compassionate and utterly captivating.

Marvelous book, marvelous project

These tiny stories do not pull punches. Julie Wilson is able to do, in a few hundred words or less, what some writers don't do at all: make you laugh out loud, tug at your heartstrings, get you thinking. You will finish each entry and take a pause to absorb what you've just read, and then you'll want to read it again and again. What an amazing book to pick up whenever you have a few moments, but want to be engaged by something real and true.

And voyeurs unite! Julie Wilson has a hashtag so we can all document the interesting folk we see reading. I've been having a lot of fun describing people and their books and posting to #SeenReading, so other readers should too!

Subway spy

I loved Seen Reading. I found myself reading the quirky stories on the TTC and wondering about the true tales of those sitting and reading around me. Julie Wilson is a madame of microfiction.
