Honour and grace in action never gets old
History and geography dance and sing (and sweat and bleed) when spun through the eyes of well-loved characters who inspire us with honour, persistence and courage, leavened with occasional doubt and human imperfectness. Even shorter vignettes like these are satisfying...like a single chocolate truffle, intense and sweet.
Excellent stories on their own but infinitely richer if you’ve read the Outlander and Lord John series first.
One gets the sense that writing The Big Books requires editing out the sidebars that distract from the main narrative, but they are fun and fascinating enough on their own to warrant telling, and to enjoy reading. Waste not, want not :)
