Silent Disco

A woman wakes in a hospital with no name, no memory, and no history anyone can prove belongs to her.  Released into a city that registers her as another anonymous body, she learns how to survive among people who have also fallen outside the official record.  She finds a discarded novel called "Silent Disco," and uses it as a diversion.  Then a private detective finds her.  He offers fragments instead of answers: a photograph without context, the name Julia Brooks, innuendo that stirs inexplicable flashbacks of a violent crime.  The novel she is reading begins to anticipate her thoughts, describing a life that may be hers, or one carefully written for her to inhabit.  As memory and fiction begin to overlap, she reconstructs herself from scattered clues, uncertain whether she is uncovering a forgotten past or participating in its manufacture.  Every revelation raises a more unsettling question: if identity is only the story we can remember, what remains when someone else has been writing it all along?  Silent Disco is a literary novel about memory, perception, and the invisible systems that shape human identity.  Moving through the discarded margins of contemporary America, it explores the fragile boundary between who we are, who we believe ourselves to be, and who the world demands we become.
