APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
With her Grisha trilogy, Leigh Bardugo put us under the spell of the fantastical realm of Ravka. Her new trilogy starts with an unsettling scene in which a young “grisha” (magical servant) named Anya is coerced into performing dark spells, to disastrous effects. You don’t have to be immersed in Bardugo’s mythology to get pulled into Six of Crows, a terrific adventure story with magnetic characters. Filled with beautiful imagery and crisp dialogue, the book unfolds in the bustling city of Ketterdam—a center of trade where street gangs of brutes and runaways compete for turf and an intriguing strike-it-rich scheme unfolds.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
When the score of a lifetime presents itself, criminal mastermind Kaz Brekker assembles a crack team of talented outcasts. Their mission: to rescue a prisoner from the most secure prison in the world, so that the secrets he holds can be exploited by the right people. As Kaz and his compatriots put together a daring plan, they contend with old grudges, mistrust, lingering secrets, and deadly rivalries. Naturally, things go wrong once they start their mission, and now they must escape the very prison they sneaked into. Bardugo expands on the world of her Grisha trilogy with this series opener, which marries heist and action conventions with magic and mystery. Her characters are damaged, complex, and relatable, and her worldbuilding is ambitiously detailed. As various characters' backstories unfold, Bardugo reveals intriguing new depths and surprises. This has all the right elements to keep readers enthralled: a cunning leader with a plan for every occasion, nigh-impossible odds, an entertainingly combative team of skilled misfits, a twisty plot, and a nerve-wracking cliffhanger. Ages 12 up.

Read it
This book made me trust BookTok (not sure if that’s a good thing) but I saw it recommended and decided to buy it. Six of Crows got me into the YA fantasy genre (I haven’t found anything as good as it yet) and it’s honestly one of the best books I’ve ever read. It can be hard to get into but once you’re at the second ‘part’ (which isn’t that far in) it speeds up and becomes more easy to understand. The Shadow and Bone trilogy comes first technically but you don’t have to read it first (I didn’t) because it has nothing to do with the Six of Crows’ characters even though it’s set in the same world. It’s not as good so if you’d rather just read Six of Crows first do it! Anyway, the depth of the characters and the diversity of them was really just what made this Duology. So if you’re wondering what to read and you haven’t read this yet, definitely give it a try!
