The term SNAKEBIT is described in the opening book of the series as the political madness growing in our disunited states over the imminent election of President Abraham Lincoln. The Garrett family, and their neighboring family the McCunes, guide the reader through the madness, through the historical events that begin with secession proceed through Civil War and end in the uneasy peace we now call Reconstruction.
