After graduating with a masters degree in agricultural economics, the son of a pig farmer returned to the family farm with the hope of taking over the family business in the coming years. In the short term, he planned to improve the financial performance and long-term sustainability of the operation and was currently considering a switch to a different supplier of genetics that made claims of healthier and more prolific pigs. He knew that such claims might not materialize, while the increased cost of genetic material and investment costs were a certainty.
