Storm Wood Storm Wood

Publisher Description

Deepest loyalty. Fiercest defiance.

I never wanted to fall in love. My sister’s disappearance damaged me for such things. I’ve devoted my life finding her—no matter where that leads me.

I could never have imagined it would bring me to him. A human with haunting celadon eyes and a determination that rivals my own. He’s strong, brash, and gorgeous.

Maybe that’s why I was caught off guard when he acknowledged that I was a covert agent. It’s a secret few know, and if word gets out, I’m as good as dead.

Too much rides on my identity remaining hidden. I have no choice but to help him navigate the perilous depths of the Below—and all who reside there.

But the lines that were once so vivid between us slowly begin to blur. We have only each other to survive and trusting him with my life is one thing. With my heart…that’s something I can’t even consider.

Yet, I can’t stop wondering what his lips would feel like against mine. I can’t help the ache I feel to be near him. And I can lie to him, but not myself. I crave his hard body next to me.

I never wanted to fall in love…but he stole my heart before I had a chance to safeguard it.

Now fate is pulling us apart, but I intend to fight for him. For us.

Even if it means my death.

3.75stars-intriguing, captivating

3.75stars- STORM WOOD is the third instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult ELVEN KINGDOMS paranormal/ fantasy series- a spin off from the author’s numerous interconnected Dragon Kings and Dark Kings series. This is Wood Elf Farah, and human Rohan’s story line. STORM WOOD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Rohan and Farah STORM WOOD follows Rohan and Farah as they go in search of someone they lost. Days earlier, having worked undercover for the group known as the DIA Farah escaped the Masters of Mortham but in doing so found herself injured and recovering at the home of two human siblings. Struggling to heal, Farah continues to focus on the future, and the rescue of her sister Nitya, a future that now included Rohan. Rohan’s younger sister is also missing, a possible victim of the elven slavers. Thousands of people have gone missing from his village, and with only a dozen remaining, Rohan is determined to bring home the people he lost. As Rohan and Farah begin their journey together, Farah will discover she is a wanted elf, a price on her head, and someone may be pointing a finger in her direction.

The world building is, once again, detailed and complex, focusing on the torture and trafficking of humans and elves, and the existence of Moon, Star, Dark and Wood Elves; Healers and Readers. Someone is forcing the elves and humans into slavery, and our couple are hoping to free the people they love. The Council of Masters continues to seek power and control, while the DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) and the CCD (Counter Corruption Division)

There is a large ensemble cast of interesting and often questionable secondary and supporting characters. We are reintroduced to DIA agent Sun Elf Ravi and his lover Yasmin (Rising Sun 1), Arya and Jai (Dark Heart 2) , Dark elf Dain, Solil and Durga; Rohan’s sisters Lita and Kalyani; and Farah’s sister Nitya. The requisite evil has many faces.

The relationship between Rohan and Farah begins as enemies to frenemies to compatriots then to lovers, as our couple endeavor to rescue their missing siblings but the deeper our couple journey, the more dangerous and familiar the enemies. The $ex scenes are limited yet intimate but I did not feel the growing attraction or sexual energy.

STORM WOOD is an interesting story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and dysfunction, acceptance and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating with a familiar writing style and assertion; the romance is limited; the characters are energetic and determined.
