Strontium Strontium

Strontium

Publisher Description

All the way to the left of the periodic table you will find the element of Strontium.  This unique metal gets its name from the Scottish village of Strontian, the only element to be named after a place in the United Kingdom. It is located in group two, row 5 of the periodic table, which is also known as the alkaline earth metals. With the atomic number of 38, Sr has 38 protons and 50 neutrons. As long as it is a regular atom, or has no charge, the number of electrons is also 38. Since strontium burns red, it is used in fireworks which you can enjoy on holidays such as Fourth of July!
