Tante

This novel is about a selfish, egomaniacal concert pianist (Tante) who almost ruins the life of her doting adopted daughter (Karen). Karen marries Gregory Jardine, and Jardine and Tante grow to hate each other; Karen, out of her blind devotion to Tante, leaves Jardine. Later Tante reveals her true tyranical colors to Karen, and Karen is able to break with her and save herself (and return to Jardine).
