Organic sulfoxides have wide applications in the synthesis of chemically useful

and biologically active molecules such as drugs, flavors, germicides as well as

catabolism regulators. The common synthetic method for sulfoxide is the oxidation of

organic sulfides. However, a stoichiometric amount of organic or inorganic oxidant is

required in those preparative processes and thus a large amount of toxic waste would

be generated.
