I really liked the basic story and the characters. I do believe the whole book needs some slash and burn editing, though. For starters, there are often too many descriptions jam-packed into one sentence. Too many descriptions bog down the descriptions of characters, their motives, feelings. Too many plots meandering off in the distance. I believe you need to pick the very most important things in your storylines and characters and trim them way down to give them more weight. Less is indeed more.
