The Atlantic Monthly is an American magazine founded in 1857. It was a literary and cultural commentary magazine, which was created to achieve a national reputation as a high-quality review. The magazine has published new writers and poets. The magazine has won more National Magazine Awards than any other monthly magazine. After financial hardship and some ownership changes, the magazine was reformatted as a general editorial magazine.  The first issue of the magazine was published in 1857.
