Mishka has made a life for himself and for reasons even he doesn't understand, he cares for all life in any form. He lives where he can and how he can. His only true fear is the odd people who ride loud "chines" and go around killing things, including people. To protect himself, his animals, and now Plebo, his young friend, he finds a magnificent hole in the ground as his famous hider.

Then the danger comes again, in force.
