The Beast in the Cave

Howard Phillips Lovecraft  was an American author who achieved posthumous fame through his influential works of horror fiction. Virtually unknown and only published in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, he is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors in his genre. Lovecraft is credited with being the creator of the Cthulhu Mythos – shared elements; characters, settings and themes used by Lovecraft and associated horror writers. 

"The Beast in the Cave" is a short story by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft written in 1905, when Lovecraft was fourteen. It was first published in the June 1918 issue of the amateur press journal the Vagrant.
