Narrated from a child's point of view, The Best Day Ever! unfolds with a bold declaration of disdain for school. The story continues as the child eats cold cereal for breakfast, misses the school bus, gets his feet wet in a puddle, and is ultimately late walking toschool. Troubles continue in school. Another student sits in his seat, he hasn't studied for a spelling test, and his teacher selects him even though he's not raising his hand.
