Publisher Description
Nurse Nyla Franklin knows three things to be true: 1) taking care of others is more joyous than a basket of kittens; 2) a triple-fudge sundae can cure just about anything; and 3) no good ever comes from keeping a secret. So when her best friend spills a big one, Nyla knows she’s not just holding a secret. She’s holding a ticking time bomb.
Mr. Always Does the Right Thing Leo Sayre is discovering that pain meds are apparently his truth serum. Now his best friend Nyla—the smartest, funniest, and sexiest woman ever—knows the biggest, darkest secret about his past. And the confession has everything flipped upside down and turned inside out…including his relationship with Nyla.
But secrets have a way of piling up, and it’s just a matter of time before someone lights a match. Because while the truth can set you free, it can also burn completely out of control…

Loose lips alter the dynamic of a loving northern Washington family in Fenske's placid finale to the Where There's Smoke series (after Just a Little Bet). Leo Sayre has known for years that his 12-year-old son, Seth, is not biologically his, though he's said nothing to his now ex-wife and amicable co-parent, Mandi. But while under the influence of pain meds following an oral surgery, he spills all to nurse Nyla Franklin, his former sister-in-law, who's known for her inability to keep secrets. Once sober, Leo scrambles to keep Nyla from telling the rest of the family. Their shared secret soon has them spending a lot of time together—and seeing one another in a new light. But when they learn that Seth is working on a genetics project for his science class, they must come clean about Seth's parentage, confront Mandi about her infidelity, and reveal their own changing relationship. Fenske minimizes the ensuing drama, swapping tension for easy acceptance and familial loyalty that some may find anticlimactic. Still, the romance itself is a lovely mix of naughty and nice. This is a sweet send-off for series fans.
Customer Reviews
It was good
It took me a while to finally finish this book & I’m glad I did. It started out very wordy & I felt like I was drowning in the story. As I finally got through half way it started to get better. The characters were fun, even when I couldn’t figure out how I felt about the story. There were a few laugh out loud moments & there were a few sad ones as well but in all it was a sweet, funny story. I have to say that my favourite moment in the story was the pond scene with Nyla feeding the ducks & then swimming out to save what she thought was an injured duck from the other ducks. I enjoyed the chemistry between Leo & Nyla as they slowly realized the feelings between them. Thank you to the publisher & Net Galley for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.
