Published originally in serial form, W. Bourne Cooke's "The Black Box" is historical fiction at its best.  It tells the story of the Monmouth Rebellion, an attempt to overthrow James II, the Duke of York who had become King of England, Scotland and Ireland upon the death of his elder brother Charles II.
