It is the spring of 1955 in Willow Springs, Alabama, when nineteen-year-old Miranda Nelson learns the truth surrounding her mother's death. Because her mother died when she was two-years-old, her father was left to care for her on his own. Miranda becomes close with her father along with Seth, a black man who works on her family's farm.
