To save mankind’s future, the members of Sigma Force must make a devil’s bargain as they join forces with their most hated enemy to stop an ancient threat in this gripping adventure from #1 New York Times bestselling author James Rollins.
Off the coast of Brazil, a team of scientists discovers a horror like no other, an island where all life has been eradicated, consumed, and possessed by a species beyond imagination. Before they can report their discovery, a mysterious agency attacks the group, killing them all, save one: an entomologist, an expert on venomous creatures, Professor Ken Matsui from Cornell University.
Strangest of all, this inexplicable threat traces back to a terrifying secret buried a century ago beneath the National Mall: a cache of bones preserved in amber. The artifact was hidden away by a cabal of scientists—led by Alexander Graham Bell—to protect humankind. But they dared not destroy it, for the object also holds an astonishing promise for the future: the very secret of life after death.
Yet nothing stays buried forever. An ancient horror— dormant in the marrow of those preserved bones—is free once more, nursed and developed into a weapon of incalculable strength and malignancy, ready to wreak havoc on an unsuspecting world.
To stop its spread, Commander Grayson Pierce of Sigma Force must survive a direct attack on the island of Maui. To be there first has always been the core mission of Sigma Force, a covert team forged to be America’s front line against emerging threats. But this time, even Sigma may not be able to decipher the deadly mystery, one that traces back to the founding of the Smithsonian Institution.
With each new discovery, the menace they hunt is changing, growing, spreading—adapting and surviving every attempt to stop it from reconquering a world it once ruled. And each transformation makes it stronger . . . and smarter.
Running out of time and options, Commander Grayson Pierce will be forced to make an impossible choice. To eradicate this extinction-level threat and expose those involved, he will have to join forces with Sigma’s greatest enemy—the newly resurrected Guild—even if it means sacrificing one of his own.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Readers with insect phobias may want to avoid bestseller Rollins's terrific 13th Sigma Force novel (after 2016's The Seventh Plague). In 1903, Alexander Graham Bell is on a mission to Italy to retrieve the bones of James Smithson, the man who founded the Smithsonian Institution. Along with Smithson's skeleton, Bell finds a pumpkin-sized chunk of amber containing a small dinosaur with a tiny crown of bones. Smithson's diary warns: "what the Demon Crown holds is very much alive and ready to unleash the very hordes of Hell upon this world." Sure enough, in the present, the secret cabal known as the Guild is about to unleash a massive infestation of giant killer wasps that, once established, will bring the world to its knees. Sigma Force commander Grayson Pierce and partner Seichan are on the beach in Hawaii when the first masses of unrelenting, venomous wasps swarm ashore. Soon all of Sigma Force is working to defeat the evil plan. The chapters written from the wasps' point-of-view are particularly bone-chilling. Agents: Russ Galen, Scovil Galen Ghosh Literary Agency; and Danny Baror, Baror International.

The Demon Crown
Another amazing book by an amazing author.
Another Awesome Read
We are never disappointed with new titles from this author. This is an interesting story that stretches beyond the threats of The Guild. This book provides more history to the group and enlists allies with characters we know from before along with the introduction of a few more. This novel is more personal in nature and continues with the storyline of Gray’s guilt over his parents and finding a solid role in his future (I don’t want to give to much away). Gray is no longer the emotional orphan that we have come to love. He has reconciled some of those ghosts with the assistance of Seichen who also evolves out of her feelings of being always alone and independent. She must rely on others and this is not easy for this character.
Rollins closes some global gaps making friends out of precious foes. A new agency is introduced and in the course of events establishes a working partnership. It will be interesting to see if this new relationship is elaborated in future books.
Lastly we have an old enemy return who wants more than vindication. At one point in the story the characters must wok together and their Guild training offers a unique dynamic to that exchange. It was interesting to understand that these two trained soldiers would work together with the same grit and technical abilities as they used when facing each other as enemies. They work as one both using their skills and abilities to take down their common enemies
If you have read the last 3 books and have fallen in love with the coupling of Seichen and Gray then you will NOT want to miss this story! A must read!!!!
